Conditions I Treat

The conditions Uzm. Dr. Hasanli sees most often, and what he can do for each one.

Headache & Migraine

Headache & Migraine

Most headaches are migraine or tension-type, but some need a closer look. The first step is working out which type you have and ruling out anything more serious. Then comes a plan for the attacks themselves and, if they're frequent, something to prevent them. For cluster headache and hard-to-treat migraine, occipital (GON) and sphenopalatine nerve blocks are an option.

  • Pinning down the headache type
  • Treatment for attacks and for prevention
  • GON and sphenopalatine nerve blocks
  • Spotting and avoiding triggers

Epilepsy & Seizures

Epilepsy & Seizures

Not every blackout or jerk is epilepsy, so the diagnosis has to be right before treatment starts. Uzm. Dr. Hasanli uses the history, the exam and the EEG to sort this out, then picks a medication that controls the seizures with as few side effects as possible.

  • EEG recording and interpretation
  • Choosing and adjusting anti-seizure medication
  • Regular side-effect checks
  • Referral for surgery when medication fails

MS & Demyelinating Disease

MS & Demyelinating Disease

Multiple sclerosis, neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorder and other demyelinating diseases need long-term follow-up. That means choosing the right disease-modifying treatment, keeping an eye on MRI scans and dealing with relapses quickly. Uzm. Dr. Hasanli wrote the chapter on MS and cognition for a Turkish textbook on cognitive disorders, so memory and concentration get attention too.

  • Disease-modifying treatment
  • MRI follow-up
  • Relapse treatment
  • Memory and concentration checks

Stroke

After a stroke or TIA, the most important questions are why it happened and how to stop it happening again. Uzm. Dr. Hasanli looks at the scans and tests, adjusts blood thinners and other medication, and stays involved during recovery.

  • Follow-up during recovery

Memory & Dementia

Memory & Dementia

Forgetfulness has many causes, and some of them are treatable. Cognitive testing and a look at blood tests and imaging help separate normal ageing from Alzheimer's disease, frontotemporal dementia and other conditions. Families are part of the conversation from the start.

  • Cognitive screening tests
  • Working out the type of dementia
  • Medication for Alzheimer's disease
  • Guidance for family and carers

Nerve & Muscle Disease

Nerve & Muscle Disease

Numbness, tingling, weakness and drooping eyelids can come from the nerves, the muscles or the junction between them. Nerve conduction studies and EMG, including single-fibre and repetitive stimulation tests, show where the problem is so treatment can be aimed properly.

  • Nerve conduction and needle EMG
  • Myasthenia gravis treatment
  • Finding the cause of neuropathy
  • Long-term follow-up

Vision, Dizziness & Pressure

Vision, Dizziness & Pressure

Some problems sit between neurology, ophthalmology and ENT: idiopathic intracranial hypertension, intracranial hypotension, double vision (ophthalmoplegia) and vertigo. Uzm. Dr. Hasanli uses fundus examination, OCT, visual and sensory evoked potentials and audiometry to work out what's behind the symptoms.

  • Fundus examination and OCT
  • VEP and SEP testing
  • Audiometry for vertigo
  • Treatment for intracranial hypertension

Sleep Disorders

Sleep Disorders

Poor sleep wears everything else down. For chronic insomnia and narcolepsy, the first job is understanding the pattern and what's driving it. Treatment follows from that, with medication used where it actually helps.

  • Detailed sleep history
  • A plan for chronic insomnia
  • Narcolepsy diagnosis
  • Review of current sleep medication
